Students develop solutions to identified problems and situations and explore the impact of technologies on the individual and society.
Our subjects are vital to help students relate to everyday tasks, by developing an enquiring mind and nurturing an attitude towards problem-solving.
Stage 4 Technology Mandatory
Through the study of technology courses, students engage in a diverse range of practical experiences and develop knowledge and understanding of contemporary and advancing technologies. They develop solutions to identified problems and situations and explore the impact of technologies on the individual, society and the environment.
Stage 5 Design and Technology (Elective)
The study of Design and Technology develops a student’s ability for innovative and creative thought through the planning and production of design projects related to real-world needs and situations. Students investigate existing solutions, analyse data and information, and generate, justify and evaluate ideas. Students experiment with tools, materials and technologies to manage and produce prototypes, products and solutions to identified needs and problems.
Stage 5 Graphics Technology (Elective)
Stage 5 Graphics Technology (Elective)
The study of Graphics Technology provides students with knowledge of the techniques and technologies used to graphically convey technical and non-technical ideas and information. Students are introduced to the significance of graphical communication as a universal language and develop the ability to read, interpret and produce graphical presentations that communicate information using a variety of techniques and media.
Stage 5 Industrial Technology (Elective – Electronics, Engineering, Metals, Timber)
The study of Industrial Technology provides students with opportunities to engage in a diverse range of creative and practical experiences using a variety of technologies widely available in industrial and domestic settings.
Students develop knowledge and understanding of materials and processes. Related knowledge and skills are developed through a specialised approach to the tools, materials, equipment and techniques employed in the planning, development, construction and evaluation of quality practical projects and processes. Critical thinking skills are developed through engagement with creative practical problem-solving activities.
Stage 6 Design and Technology
This course involves the study of design theory and practice, design processes, environmental and social issues, communication, research, technologies, and the manipulation of materials, tools and techniques. It involves hands-on practical activities which develop knowledge and skills in designing and producing. The course involves the development, realisation and documentation of design projects. The Major Design Project and supporting folio requires students to select and apply appropriate design, production and evaluation skills to a product, system or environment that satisfies an identified need or opportunity.
Stage 6 Engineering Studies
This course provides students with the opportunity to study engineering by investigating a range of applications and fields of engineering. Students learn about historical and societal influences, the scope of the profession and develop skills in technical communication. Students apply knowledge of engineering mechanics, hydraulics, electricity, electronics and engineering materials to solve engineering problems.
Stage 6 Industrial Technology (Metals, Timber, Multimedia)
This course provides students with the opportunity to develop their knowledge and understanding of a selected industry and its related technologies. Through a process of observing and analysing industry practice and through personal practical experiences, students develop a broad range of skills and knowledge related to the focus area chosen for the course. The course highlights the importance of design, management and production through the production of practical projects. Students select and apply appropriate design, management and production skills in the development of a Major Project and supporting documentation.
